Rotaract Club of Carl Albert State College, Poteau, Oklahoma
The Rotaract Club of Carl Albert State College is a Rotary sponsored university-based club, whose membership consists of 18-30 year olds who attend Carl Albert State College.
Main Focus: Promoting Leadership Skills and Service Learning through various community and international projects. The club has been active in participating in the Poteau Balloon Fest by volunteering to park cars and work the Rotary concession stand for the past 6 years. It also assists the Poteau Rotary Club with the Dictionary Project by helping label dictionaries and distribution to 3rd graders. The club launched the Adopt-A-Roadway Project in the City of Poteau, which was handed over to the Chamber of Commerce for management and a main point of contact. Currently there are 11 individuals/corporations/non-profit groups/club who have adopted a section of roadway in Poteau, where trash is picked up quarterly, including the participation in the City Wide Trash Off Day.
The club has been able to donate to various organizations through funds raised on campus and through joint projects with the Poteau Rotary Club. Some of the projects and organizations Rotaract has donated to include: World Vision, Heifer International, PUR Water Purification, Rotary World Water Fund, Haiti, Indonesia, Rotary Polio Project, Le Flore County Youth Services Angel Tree Program, a drinking fountain for the City’s skateboard park, a drinking fountain for the Rotary Outdoor Complex, 5 bicycle racks for the Rotary Outdoor Complex, and various campus projects and activities.
Each year a new group of freshman join Rotaract, which is governed by the previous year’s returning members. Students have the ability to direct, govern, and effect change through the club. Every year the students come up with new an innovative ways to raise funds and make the world a better place.
